Ozone Model
TSS42 Pickup Assembly
This
is a tapped pickup assembly, there are 3 pickup voicings. Here it is, a “T” bridge
pickup on an
“S” guitar. Fits in most later
model guitars, which are routed
about 1" deep, with
minor routing around the lead and mid pickups. Routing template
drawing provided. There are 4 switches. The first
is the 3-position tap switch, which works on
all pickups. “Just
right” in the center, “More”, and
“Less”, on the end positions. The other 3
switches are on-off for each pickup. The
“T” bridge pickup is much
hotter, and is in the
“T” position and slant. All 3 pickups have different turns,
for best balance.
Pickups have large diameter steel poles, and are taller than the
originals. As could be expected from that much more iron and
copper, the sound could be simply described as "bigger" and "smoother".
Plus
the
"More"
and
"Less" options from the taps.
The switches and controls are mounted on a grounding subplate under the
pickguard,
a self-contained subassembly. About half of the switch handles
come through slots in the pickguard, mounting nuts are not visible, and
switch height is lower. The volume and
tone controls are
modified for even taper and tone, and a bit more bright and boost when
all
the way
up. All small components are hand wired on
an eyelet board with a ground plane. The board also provides a
simple, reliable place to terminate the industrial-quality shielded
wiring. There is an extra wire for
the bridge ground, no soldering to the back of pots. Pickup
covers and knobs are black. Standard pickguards are White, and
Black. Tortoise, White Pearloid, and other colors on special
order.
